Why We Go
Zebra plains and giant crocodiles between Lake Abaya and Lake Chamo.
Located about 500 kilometres south of Addis Ababa, the park covers some 514 square kilometres of savannah, bushland and groundwater forest fed by the springs that give Arba Minch (“Forty Springs”) its name. Lake Chamo is known for its very large Nile crocodiles and hippos.
From Arba Minch, travellers can combine Nech Sar with the Dorze highlands, Konso and the onward journey to the Omo Valley.
Highlights
- Boat trip on Lake Chamo to the “crocodile market”
- Burchell’s zebra and Grant’s gazelle on the Nech Sar plains
- Views from the Bridge of God between the two lakes
- Around 190 bird species, including the kori bustard
