Why We Go
Farmers, potters and blacksmiths of the green highlands around Jinka.
Unlike many of their pastoral neighbours, the Ari are primarily farmers, and their land is among the most productive in the region. They are known for pottery, weaving and ironwork, and many families sell their crafts at Jinka market.
A walk through an Ari village is a gentle and rewarding introduction to southern Ethiopian life, easily combined with the South Omo Museum.
Highlights
- Village walks among coffee and banana gardens
- Women potters at work
- Traditional blacksmiths forging tools
- Jinka’s Saturday market
