Day by Day
Detailed Day-by-Day Itinerary
This itinerary is carefully planned, but minor adjustments may be made due to weather, local festivals, road conditions or your personal interests to ensure the best possible experience.
Day 1
Fly Addis Ababa – Jinka – Bena Village – Turmi
Take a morning flight from Addis Ababa to Jinka. Upon arrival at Jinka Airport, meet your guide and driver and travel south toward Turmi through the landscapes of the Lower Omo Valley. On the way, visit a Bena village to learn about the community’s lifestyle, clothing, housing and pastoral activities, and how the Bena maintain their traditions while adapting to their environment. Continue to Turmi, the main town of the Hamer people, and spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing or exploring nearby, depending on your arrival time. Overnight: Turmi.
Day 2
Turmi – Karo Village – Dassanech – Hamer Village
After breakfast, drive toward the Omo River to visit the Karo village of Korcho, known for its spectacular views over the river. The Karo are renowned for their elaborate body painting, decorative scarification and artistic traditions. Continue to Omorate, near the border with Kenya, and, depending on river conditions and local arrangements, cross the Omo River by boat to a Dassanech village to learn about their cattle keeping, fishing and adaptation to the dry south. Return to Turmi and, in the late afternoon, visit a Hamer village to learn about their distinctive hairstyles, beadwork, clothing and cattle-centred culture. If a traditional ceremony or evangadi dance is taking place, you may be able to attend with local permission. Overnight: Turmi.
Day 3
Turmi – Local Market – Mursi Village – Jinka – Fly to Addis Ababa
After breakfast, drive north toward Jinka. Depending on the day of the week, stop at a local market where different communities gather to trade produce, livestock, clothing, jewellery and handicrafts. Continue to visit the Mursi people around Key Afar or Jinka, known for the lip plates worn by some women and elaborate body decoration, and learn about their social traditions, cattle keeping and everyday life with a local guide. After lunch in Jinka, transfer to Jinka Airport for your flight to Addis Ababa.

What our guests say
Rated 5.0 on Tripadvisor and Google, and 4.9 on SafariBookings.
“My tour operator was very communicative even before the trip began and very responsive on WhatsApp. He booked all my domestic flights and arranged all my airport pick-ups and drop-offs. He had professional guides in all the regions I visited, the itinerary was clear, and he was flexible with any changes. There were no extra costs. He is reliable, communicative and well experienced. I will be back with the same company.”

They were patient, professional, knowledgeable and took great care of us. Everything was seamlessly coordinated and they were always on time for pickups and made sure we were briefed in advance of the itinerary and any changes. One of my top travel destinations in Africa, with some of the kindest and warmest people. Maereg went above and beyond! First-class service, always with a smile!”
