Why We Go
A green highland town among forests and coffee estates in Ethiopia’s far southwest.
Mizan Teferi sits in one of the wettest and greenest corners of Ethiopia, where the highlands fall away towards the lowlands of the Omo. The surrounding forests and plantations make it a rewarding stop for travellers interested in coffee and nature.
Nearby Bebeka is one of the country’s largest coffee estates. Mizan Teferi is also the starting point for expeditions south to Kibish and the Surma (Suri) communities, and combines naturally with Jimma, Bonga and the Kafa Biosphere Reserve.
Highlights
- The Bebeka coffee estate, one of the largest in Ethiopia
- Forest walks rich in birdlife and primates
- The Bench people and their local markets
- The road south towards Kibish and the Surma (Suri)
