Why We Go
Elephant country between the Tekeze River and the Eritrean border.
Kafta Sheraro covers some 5,000 square kilometres between the Tekeze River in the north and the Ruwassa River in the south, about 600 kilometres from Mekelle. Its woodland, grassland and acacia savannah support African elephants, greater kudu, leopard, hyena and many birds.
Visits require careful planning and current local advice, and are arranged on request.
Highlights
- One of Ethiopia’s most important elephant refuges
- Acacia savannah and riverine forest along the Tekeze
- Greater kudu, bushbuck and rich birdlife
- Remote, rarely visited wilderness
